Big Rapids Community Raises More Than $850,000 for Hemlock Park Improvement Project

The City of Big Rapids celebrated the work of more than two years of planning and fundraising for free outdoor recreation Monday.

It’s all because community members saw the need for better physical and mental health. The Hemlock Park Improvement Project will add or improve multiple facilities in the park, including a kayak launch, pickle ball courts, basketball courts and a splash pad.

The project committee says Monday is a celebration of the community.

“Today is symbolic of the community and city coming together as one to fill a need in our community,” said John Coles, Chair of Parks Project. “And it’s a celebration of us coming together and getting the job done.”

The project committee was able to raise more than $850,000.

Four of the projects will be finalized this summer while the splash pad won’t come until the summer of 2023.
