Veterans and kids come together as one on this Armed Forces Day.
VFW Post 3676 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #3 in Sault Ste Marie held an “America and Me” boot camp.
Veterans spent the day with kids, ages 5-12, teaching them about patriotism, coloring hats, showing them how to fold an American flag among other things.
Three dozen kids participated with a donation of new socks being the entrance “fee”.
The socks will be donated to local veterans.
“We all know that our veterans are very important to us,” said American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Maggie Merchberger. “We also want to make sure our youth understand the importance of tradition. The kids are just as excited as the adults are!”
This is the first year for the camp. Merchberger would like to make it even bigger in the years ahead.
