$5 Million Awarded to Michigan Communities to Support First Responders

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has awarded $5 million to over 60 Michigan communities to support first responders.

This comes as part of the First Responder and Recruitment Grant program.

All Michigan cities, villages, townships, counties or fire authorities were eligible to apply for the grant. Clare County first responders received over $54,000 to expand recruitment, improve training and provide additional professional development.

Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski says it’s a great opportunity for first responders to help with training and recruitment.

“It also helps us to recruit new employees in the profession,” said —-. “It’s hard sometimes with the pay. And the extra training option, and recruitment is huge for us.”

Miedzianowski says they asked for a training simulator for firearms to help keep skill set up.
