UPDATE: 12-Year-Old Boy Dies After Stepping Off Steep Drop Off In Ellsworth Lake
A 12-year-old boy died Thursday night after walking past a steep drop-off in Ellsworth Lake, according to the Ellsworth Police Department.
Police say the 12-year-old was with friends, a sibling and other adults at River Park after track practice Thursday afternoon. While in the water, he stepped off a drop-off into a part of Ellsworth Lake that is at least 25-feet deep, and never resurfaced.
At 5:35 p.m., the 12-year-old was rescued from the water and emergency personnel tried to save his life. However, after being taken to Charlevoix Hospital, he died.
The 12-year-old’s name will not be released.
The Antrim County Sheriff’s Office is finishing their investigation, and foul play is not suspected.
