Bruce Township Fire Department Under Review by Township, MIOSHA Because of Complaints

The Bruce Township Volunteer Fire Department is under review by the township and state officials.

Residents accused the Bruce Township Fire Department of having alcohol in the firehall and not having adequate training in a township board meeting in April. The board decided to take a report from the fire chief and come back with their findings at the meeting Thursday. However, when the board was investigating, MIOSHA showed up unannounced to check on requirements.

This delayed any decision on the allegations against the fire department.

“MIOSHA stopped by while we were doing the evaluation,” said Ward Pulfrey, the Bruce Township Clerk. “And they showed up they were doing a routine investigation, plus they had a complaint and they were investigating that complaint.”

The board will make a final decision on their investigation as well as what MIOSHA finds in theirs.
