Leland Township Grass Fire Contained

Dry and windy conditions this week make the prime weather for starting explosive fires.

A grass fire broke out in Leland Township on Monday afternoon, alarming those who live in the area.

The fire began in the wooded area across from North Manitou Trail and spread through the brush.

Fire units responded right before 1 p.m. and were able to quickly contain the fire.

Several units assisted, including Leland Township Fire and Rescue, Suttons Bay Bingham Fire Department, Leelanau Township Emergency Services and the DNR.

A was issued for the Lower Peninsula until 8 p.m. Monday night.
