A northern Michigan family made a two hour drive from Gaylord to Sault Ste. Marie on Mother’s Day.
A grandmother, daughter and granddaughter made a special trip to the Soo Locks Sunday afternoon.
Megan Hacker and her young daughter have never been to the Soo Locks, but her grandmother came when she was seven-years-old.
They got to see the largest freighter on the Great Lakes use the locks, and took advantage of the Visitor Center’s opening day.
The center is filled with information about the locks, including hands-on displays.
“It looks very nice,” said Hacker. “They have done a great job with it. It’s very clean and easy to navigate. We are definitely going to spend more time inside.”
For the month of May, the center will be open five days a week. It will be closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
