Health Departments Bring Attention to National Infant Immunization Week

Monday is the start of National Infant Immunization Week, and the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department (BLDHD) is encouraging parents to focus on their child’s routine check-ups and vaccinations.

BLDHD, like many other district health departments, is holding free vaccination clinics for parents and children.

“What’s important to know is that we have so many diseases that are preventable through vaccines and it’s important to get your kids vaccinated on time, based on the schedule that’s recommended,” said Michelle Klein, BLDHD Director of Personal Health.

BLDHD says many young kids and babies missed vaccine opportunities during the pandemic, when families weren’t going into doctors offices in person.

“Vaccines have been around for decades, most of them, and we have a lot of data that shows the safety,” said Klein.

Parents with questions about vaccines are encouraged to contact their physicians or local health department.
