Northwestern Michigan College’s Earth Week is coming up next week. They kicked it off Friday with their Earth Day Festival.

Families around Northwest Michigan were able to attend the event and enjoy live music. An attendee, Julie Green, says Earth Day is important to her.

“Probably the most important thing to me. Safe soil, safe water and just have the kids running around together and be underneath the trees,” Green says.

The festival also featured earth friendly vendors like the school’s Green Team and Traverse City Light & Power. Organizers say their goal is to raise awareness about how people can help protect the earth.

“I’m just here to celebrate the earth with people in the community and some good live music. It’s been awhile since I’ve got the opportunity and just really love earth day in general,” Green states.

Northwestern Michigan College’s Earth Week is coming up next week. The week kicks off with their vegetable seed table. Attendees will get a chance to pick seeds for their garden this summer. The seeds will also come with care instructions.

The week will also feature yoga, planting and a spring clean up day.
