Cole, Damoose Among 7 Candidates in Crowded 37th State Senate District Race

The deadline to file for the August primary ballot was Tuesday, and seven candidates have filed to run in the 37th State Senate District race. 

Three Democrats and four Republicans filed the required petition signatures to make a run at the seat currently held by Senator Wayne Schmidt. Schmidt announced in January he was running for Grand Traverse County Commission.

Former State Representative Triston Cole of Mancelona and current State Rep. John Damoose of Harbor Springs are among those running in the August primary.

Following redistricting , the 37th District is now comprised of eight counties and stretches from Grand Traverse County up through Chippewa and Mackinac Counties in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
