A Boyne City man has been charged after failing to report a car crash in March that caused severe injuries to a passenger in Antrim County.

On March 14, Michigan State Police from the MSP Gaylord Post got a call about an unreported car crash.

An investigation revealed that the crash happened sometime after midnight on March 12. Troopers say Caden Pinney, 19, of Boyne City was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck with three passengers inside on Kidder Road in Echo Township when he lost control of the truck. The truck rolled multiple times, was towed by an unknown person to a pole barn and the crash was never reported.

Troopers say one of the passengers in the crash eventually went to Charlevoix Hospital, but was later transferred to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City with severe injuries to his back and a fractured skull.

A report was then turned in to the Antrim County Prosecutor’s Office, and a felony warrant for Pinney was authorized on April 8.

Pinney was arrested Monday and has been charged with one count failure to stop at scene of accident resulting in serious impairment or death. He is expected in court next week.
