A 23-year-old Petoskey man has been charged for criminal sexual conduct in Emmet County, says Michigan State Police.

In Jan. 2021, troopers from the MSP Gaylord Post were called to McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey to investigate an alleged sexual assault. The victim claimed Jesse Knolton, 23, of Petoskey, sexually assaulted her in her home, and said she knew Knolton when the assault happened.

Troopers opened an investigation and DNA evidence from the victim was sent to the MSP Crime Lab for analysis. A search warrant for DNA evidence from Knolton was also obtained.

On March 8, the Emmet County Prosecutor’s Office authorized a felony warrant for Knolton. He was arrested arrested in Saginaw by the MSP 7th District Fugitive Team on March 30.

Knolton was charged Thursday on one count third degree criminal sexual conduct, which is a felony punishable by 15 years. He is expected back in court in May.
