Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Receives Robotic Surgery Accreditation

Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital has received accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.

The hospital was recognized by providing the highest quality of care and patient safety by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).

Status as an accredited facility means that Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital has met nationally and internationally recognized standards. Officials say not all healthcare providers seek accreditation and not all that undergo the requirements and inspection process are granted accreditation.

Healthcare facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation go under an extensive assessment and inspection process to make sure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements.

These requirements include the following: surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment.

The inspection involves all hospital staff working in the accredited program, and inspectors educate staff on best practices to help and organization improve their care and services.

“Our surgical teams and providers have worked very hard over the past year preparing for SRC’s visit and review of our work. We are proud to be recognized as a Center of Excellence, as this demonstrates the exceptional quality of our team and the extraordinary care we provide our patients.”, said Chris Squire, Community President, Otsego Memorial Hospital.

“We’re proud to recognize Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. “This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”

In addition to the hospital’s accreditation, four Munson Healthcare providers also achieved Surgeon of Excellence status. They include: Lindsay Harden, D.O., general surgery; John Moffat, M.D., general surgery; James Shurlow, D.O., general surgery; and Stacey Sensor, D.O., OB/GYN.

“I am so proud of the staff, surgeons, and leaders who made this accreditation possible,” said Kathy Berlin, M.S.N., R.N., Otsego Memorial Hospital director of Surgical Services. “Their dedication to quality, efficiency, and excellence has promoted the success of this program, offering patients a revolutionary technology that provides life-enhancing care. It goes to show that small hospitals can achieve big things, while keeping our patients right in the center of what we do.”
