A Ludington man has died after being hit by a car in Mason County.

Mason County Sheriff’s deputies say Thursday around 2:06 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a serious crash in the 2600 block on North Jebavy Drive in Hamlin Township.

When they arrived, deputies learned the crash involved a car and an individual. Preliminary evidence by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Crash Re-Construction Team revealed that a 2016 Ford Escape, driven by a 23-year-old Howell woman, was traveling north on Jebavy Drive when it struck an 82-year-old Ludington man.

Deputies say the man was attempting to cross Jebavy Drive after retrieving his mail, and was struck in the northbound lane.

Despite remaining under investigation, preliminary findings do not suggest speed or alcohol contributed to the crash. The driver is cooperating with investigators, and names are being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
