PFAS Update on Homes Near Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District
The state released its findings for the 27 homes near the Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District that got tested for PFAS.
It comes after the ISD had levels of PFAS that exceeded the maximum contaminant level in October.
Out of the 27 homes, three homes had levels above the state limit for drinking water. One house was right at the limit. Seventeen homes had PFAS detected but below the drinking water limit. Six homes had no detected PFAS.
“Based on all this information, we really aren’t sure what the source of the PFAS is. If we had to take a guess, we would speculate that multiple septic systems are the probable source,” said Kaitlyn Bertram from EGLE.
EGLE says they are working with the ISD, Haring Township and the health department to find long-term solutions.
Health Department #10 is giving water filters to those who are affected.
