An East Bay Township man is dead after a stand-off with Grand Traverse County deputies Monday night.
Deputies responded to the suspect’s house after 7:30 p.m. Monday, following complaints that he had assaulted a minor.
Once inside, deputies observed a growing fire in the house and the man appeared to have barricaded himself inside.
He is believed to have been armed at the time. At one point, the man opened a second-story window, dropping a live cat to the ground, which was uninjured, according to law enforcement.
The fire was eventually put out by the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department and deputies were able to get inside.
“Shortly after knocking on the door, they saw fire within the residence and smoke coming out of the windows, our deputies made every attempt to open doors and yell into the house for the male to come out,” says Grand Traverse County Lt. Chris Oosse.
The man was found dead inside the house with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The case is still under investigation at this time.
