Charmaine Shawana Prominent Member of Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe has Died

Charmaine Shawana, a prominent member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian tribe, died March 29.

Shawana was devoted to serving the community as seen by her help in developing the Ziibiwin Center of Anishinabe Culture and Lifeways in Mt. Pleasant.

It is also shown in her serving on Tribal Council for Saginaw Chippewa Indian Trip of Michigan for multiple terms.

In her time with the Tribe, she served on  four tribal councils, she was treasurer from 2003 to 2005 and council member from 2009 to 2013.

She was 67 years old.
