Some renters at Lakeview Trailer Park in Prudenville say they’ve been without water for weeks.
“It’s hard to live like this when you pay your bills and then to not have it, it’s crazy to try and live this way,” said Christine Willey.
Willey said she’s on day 15 of having low-pressure water.
“I boil water to do my dishes and stuff, and I also do it to sponge bathe myself, and I go to friends to take a shower,” she said. “You can’t do anything, you can’t do nothing. You boil water and do the best that you can.”
Just down the road, Rachel DiMaria has no water at all.
“I can’t do laundry, my children can’t take baths, they can’t flush the toilet,” she said. “This is the fourth time in two months that we have not had water.”
DiMaria said she’s called and left messages to the property management company, Multi-Family Innovations, who took over the management position at the beginning of March.
“The management will call the maintenance man and have the maintenance man call us and tell him to call him,” DiMaria said. “The owners refuse to fix anything. It doesn’t matter what it is. It could be the smallest thing, they will not fix it, and they will not communicate with you at all.”
Willey said she’s called everyone she can think of to fix this issue.
“I first started with the management, the new management here. You leave a message and he wasn’t very helpful at all,” Willey said. “I did get the owners name, which they live in Oregon. I called both of those numbers, ‘leave your name and number, we’ll get back with you.’ I have yet to hear back from them. I have called Commission on Aging, I have called the Health Department, I have called supervisors in Cadillac for the water division. I have called EGLE I have called LARA, and I even so much as tried to call the governor just wanting somebody to listen to me.”
The cause of the water issue is unknown, but both Willey and DiMaria are blaming the property owners and management company for not taking care of the issue.
“I emailed management just yesterday morning, yet again, and still have not heard anything from them,” said DiMaria. “They’ve raised the rent twice since we’ve been here, and just the general lack of any interest in doing anything for anyone here. They don’t care.”
“I’m not used to living like this, I’m used to being clean, I’m used to my house being clean,” said Willey. “Somebody has got to help us with this situation.”
9&10 News reached out to Multi-Family Innovations, and the property owner. Our calls went unanswered.
