MSP Honors 13-Year-Old Girl with Distinguished Citizen Award

A 13-year-old girl from the Lakeview Post area helped another young girl in trouble and helped solve a crime while doing so.

Sarah Foote was awarded the distinguished citizen award yesterday at the Michigan State Police 6th District headquarters.

Last year, she and a friend were online and came across a girl on Snapchat that said she was being sexually assaulted. Their quick thinking to contact police lead to one Wyoming man being arrested for first degree criminal sexual conduct.

“When it was all happening, it was just really emotional. She just telling me how it was all happening and I was just like that is not okay. So I’m just like, I need to do something about it, so I called the cops,” said Foote.

Foote and her friend were the first two recipients of the award for the 6th district this year.

After, state police say they showed a maturity not often seen in kids their age.
