Demonstrators in Elk Rapids Stand in Solidarity with Ukraine

Each week, more people are finding their own ways to stand in solidarity with Ukraine.

On Sunday, local demonstrators gathered at Rotary Park in Elk Rapids to show their support for the people of Ukraine.

The rally was hosted by members of the Antrim County Democratic Party.

People waved Ukranian flags and held up sunflowers and handmade signs as cars drove by, honking in support.

One woman said she is standing for all of the families who are forced to flee their home country right now.

“We decided we wanted to get together and show some solidarity for mothers, children and grandparents of the Ukrainian people,” said Antrim County Lady Dems member Joyce Brodsky. “We just can’t even imagine what it would be like to have 15 minutes to pack a backpack, take your baby in a stroller and go to a country where you don’t speak the language and you don’t know exactly where you’re going or for how long and you don’t know what you’re coming back to.”

They hope to hold more local events in the future to show continued support for Ukraine.
