Two People Injured in Leelanau County Car Crash

Two people have been injured following a two-car crash in Leelanau County, according to the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday around 8:07 a.m., deputies along with Fire and Rescue Departments from Suttons Bay – Bingham and Leland responded to a two-car head-on collision on South Lake Leelanau Drive near O’ Brien in Suttons Bay Township.

They say once on scene, deputies determined that a southbound car driven by a 51-year-old Lake Leelanau woman had lost control on slippery roads, crossed the centerline and struck a northbound car driven by a 23-year-old Traverse City man.

Deputies state the man was pinned in his car as a result of the crash, and both individuals have been transported to Munson Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, weather conditions Tuesday morning played a factor in the crash as the air temperature was 32 degrees while the ground temperature was 27 degrees, leading to black ice conditions on the road.

The Leelanau County Sheriff is reminding all drivers to be aware of the current conditions and to drive carefully with the assumption that black ice and slippery roadways could form anywhere.
