A Grand Rapids man has been charged with criminal sexual conduct in Antrim County, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers say the MSP Gaylord Post was contracted in Aug. 2021 to investigate an alleged sexual assault of a young girl.

They say the victim’s aunt made the complaint to MDHHS Children’s Protective Services (CPS), and it was turned over to Michigan State Police to investigate.

Troopers say the alleged sexual assault happened during a July 2021 camping trip to Torch Lake/Alden area. They say the investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued for 18-year-old Charles Walkons of Grand Rapids on Feb. 28.

Walkons was arrested in Grand Rapids on March 8, and transported to Antrim County Jail the following day.

Walkons was arraigned in the 86th District Court in Antrim County on one count criminal sexual conduct third degree and one count criminal sexual conduct fourth degree.

Walkons is due back in court in late March.
