Autopsy: Santo Died From an Accidental Drowning

An autopsy of Brendan Santo has determined that the former Grand Valley State student who went missing last October at Michigan StateSanto 3 University’s campus died from an accidental drowning.

According to the report, medical examiners found ethanol (alcohol) in Santo’s system and acute ethanol intoxication was found to be a contributing condition.

Originally from downstate Rochester Hills, Santo went missing on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021 and was last seen leaving Yakeley Hall shortly before midnight. The search for Santo lasted more than 80 days.

Santo’s body was recovered from the Red Cedar River on Jan. 21, about 1.5 miles downriver of where he was last seen.
