Tuscarora Township Receives $3.5 Million for Sewer System Upgrades

A large increase in funding will help improve Tuscarora Township’s aging sewer system.

In a bill sponsored by Congressman Jack Bergman, Senator Gary Peters and Senator Debbie Stabenow, Tuscarora township will receive $3.5 million for upgrades.

The money will cut costs for homeowners by 50%, and a lot of the funds will be used to fix septic tanks at risk of leaking into the nearby waterways.

This is something many in the community, including Township Trustee Bob Kramer, have voiced their concerns about.

“Indian River is surrounded by water from the inland waterway so it’s really really important to preserve our natural resources and get rid of some of these old leaking septic tanks,” said Kramer.

Upgrades to the sewer system are expected to start in the beginning of 2023.
