New Details Released on Suttons Bay Township Car Crash

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office has released new information stemming from a car crash that killed one woman in Suttons Bay Township on March 5.

Deputies say the victim in the crash has been identified as Isabel Reyes, 56, of Suttons Bay.

They say the Medical Examiner’s Office is in the preliminary stages of their investigation as it pertains to the cause and manner of death.

On Saturday morning, deputies from the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office and fire and rescue personnel from Suttons Bay responded to a single-vehicle crash on Jacobsen Road north of McKeese Road.

Deputies say the car driven by the 56-year-old was traveling north on Jacobsen Road when it exited the road to the left, struck an embankment and went airborne.

Upon landing, the car then struck a bulldozer that had been parked at that location, causing extensive damage to the passenger compartment and car.

The crash remains under investigation, but the sheriff’s office says speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
