Engadine Consolidated Schools Closed Friday Due to Safety Concern
Engadine Consolidated Schools announced Thursday that they will be closed Friday due to a safety concern. All school sponsored events scheduled for Friday will also be cancelled.
“Late this afternoon, it came to my attention that a threat of serious concern was made against the school by an individual,” stated Engadine Superintendent Andrew Alvesteffer. “I immediately called Central Dispatch, who alerted the State Police and Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department, and these departments are currently investigating the matter.”
According to Alvesteffer, Engadine Schools is taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all students, staff and community members while the situation is investigated.
“At no time were any students or staff in direct harm today,” said Alvesteffer. “Safety is our top priority! Parents and Guardians, please monitor your child’s social media. If you have any concerns or see suspicious activity, please call the police immediately.”
Alvesteffer continued, “In addition, I have asked for extra police presence in the area for the next few days. While I am not at liberty to discuss more at this time, I want to assure you that your children are safe and we are taking this mater seriously.”
In closing, Alvesteffer notes that Engadine will be closed Monday due to a staff professional development day, school will resume in-person on Tuesday, March 15.
