Local Vineyard Donates Thousands to Cherryland Humane Society

Bowers Harbor VineyardThe Cherryland Humane Society is saying thank you after a Bowers Harbor Vineyard in Peninsula Township donated over $5,000 to assist with the recent influx of dogs.

Cherryland Humane Society received over 100 dogs from a home in East Bay Township in late Jan.

Since then, Cherryland has received many donations from members of the community.

Bowers Harbor Vineyard Tasting Room Manager, Bethany Poineau, says they saw their opportunity to get involved and took it.

“We are the dog winery of the north technically so it kind of just seemed fitting that we needed to step up and be there for those dogs and the humane society in general,” Poineau said.

Bowers Harbor accepted cash donations and donated $6 of every bottle of their Bordeaux-blended wine, Winston.Bowers Harbor Vineyard Winston

They were already donating a portion of the proceeds from Winston to Cherryland. But this time, they say they “upped the ante” and donated an even larger portion.

“We’re a family-friendly winery here and our dogs are our family. We are very community involved and we just wanted to really hone in on that,” Poineau said.

The Cherryland Humane Society is no longer accepting applications for the dogs from the East Bay Township home. They say they have more families interested in adopting the dogs than they do dogs to adopt.

Bowers is still accepting donations. You can donate at the vineyard at 2896 Bowers Harbor Rd, Traverse City, MI 49686.
