On Saturday, the Slavic Evangelical Church in Traverse City invited everyone to come out and take home some Ukrainian food.
What began as a local fundraiser for Ukraine, quickly spread—attracting over 2,000 people throughout the course of the day.
The main point of the day was to collect donation for Ukraine—the country that many church members call home.
They say the main thing people need most right now is medicine.
After only a few hours, the church ran out of food—overwhelmed by the amount of support received so early on.
“We have a lot of friends who know us and who know what’s happening and they’re just telling their friends and their friends are telling their friends and a lot of people know about it and it’s amazing,” said church member Vladimir Silkovskiy.
They are hoping to hold more fundraiser events soon.
