Evart Family Left Picking Up The Pieces After Fire Destroys Home

An Evart family is left picking up the pieces after their home caught fire early Wednesday morning.

Evart FireFire crews responded to the scene around 6:20 a.m. The house is located in downtown Evart, right along U.S. 10, next to BC Pizza. Evart Fire Chief Shane Helmer said all family members and animals made it out safely, without any injuries.

According to the home owner’s co-worker, the family had four children inside during the time of the fire. The children were ages 18 mo. to seven years old.

When fire crews arrived, the entire top floor was engulfed in flames. Multiple departments responded to the call, including Osceola EMS, MSP, Garfield Township, Reed City, Hersey and Evart Fire Departments.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.

“Just because volunteers are short, and stuff like that, it takes multiple departments to come in and do that,” said Helmer. “For us, we have about 25 people on-site right now. The cold weather isn’t helping at all, and the ice and stuff, but for that, it just kind of helps us out a little bit so we can rotate guys in and out.”

Community members and friends created a GoFundMe to help the family.
