The Crawford County Housing Department is offering to help homeowners who need emergency repairs for their homes.

The program’s funds come from Michigan’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).

The goal is to help homeowners who need emergency repairs done to their home, but may not be able to afford it.

Some emergency repairs that are eligible include: roofing, septic, electric and structure damage.

“It will make the housing unit much safer for the occupants,” said Housing Director Hannelore Dysinger. “It also will help the neighborhood. If you have dilapidated housing in a neighborhood, that will decrease the value of all the housing units that surround it.”

To qualify, you have to own your home and your income must fall at or below 80% of the area median income for Crawford County.

Additionally, the home you live in must be at least five-years-old, and you have had to lived in the home for at least a year.

Moreover, the homeowner has to be up to date on property taxes, or at least be up to date on a property tax payment agreement.

The program also requires homeowner’s insurance. However, if there is no homeowner’s insurance, the Crawford County Housing Department will work with the homeowner as long as insurance is put on the house by the end of the project.
