State Police Identify Man Who Attacked Deputies With Hatchet

Michigan State Police are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Cheboygan County.

It left one man dead and sent a sheriff’s deputy to the hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office says it all started when the family of a woman told deputies she texted them for help.

Deputies were called to a home on Afton Road in Cheboygan County’s Ellis Township to check on the woman’s safety Thursday afternoon.

Inside, they found 32-year-old Aian Thomas Tracy, who they say attacked a deputy with a hatchet, hitting him in the neck.

Deputies shot and killed Tracy

The deputy who was hit by the hatchet was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and the investigation is still open.
