Inaugural Katie Robinson Memorial Showcase to be Held Friday

A community is coming together over the loss of a young woman.

Katie Robinson died when her car was rear-ended last June in the Soo. She was 20 years old.

Robinson loved helping others as much as she loved the game of hockey.

The K-Stars Women’s Hockey Team in Kalkaska is teaming up with the Lake Superior State University Women’s Hockey Club team to hold the inaugural Katie Robinson Memorial Showcase this Friday afternoon at the Pullar Community Building in the Soo.

The puck drops at 1:30, and the Lady Lakers will be playing the Michigan State University Spartan team.

“The ability to serve as a role model, Katie had a passion for making sure others felt included and she did that very well through the sport of hockey and building relationships with other girls internationally and throughout our country in all that she did,” said co-organizer Jamiee Gerrie.

There is also a Katie Robinson memorial scholarship fund set up.
