The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office says a 24-year-old Gowen man died following a car crash over the weekend.
They say the crash was initially reported as an open 911 line, and a short time later, the dispatch center received a notification of a “hard fall” from an Apple Watch.
They say the notifications gave deputies an approximate location of Pakes and and Johnson Roads in Montcalm Township, and while searching the area, a pickup truck was found crashed into a large tree.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 1:44 a.m. Saturday, and a 24-year-old Gowen man was pronounced dead at the scene.
They say alcohol use and failure to wear a seatbelt are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
