Volunteers Make Sure the I-500 Track Will be Ready for the Big Race

Preparations are still underway for the I-500 race in Sault Ste. Marie.

After it was canceled for the past two years, the excitement can be felt throughout the city for it’s return.

They’ve also missed the huge economic impact it has on the community, especially with people coming from around the country and beyond to witness it.

The track is still being groomed and thanks to a large number of volunteers, it’s expected to be ready when the day comes.

“Volunteers are pretty important and then you look at our track and obviously have been working pretty hard,” said Rick Federau, chairman of the I-500 board of directors. “Mother Nature has been cooperating and we have a beautiful track right now. We’re going to be all set for Saturday for sure.”

The race is scheduled to take place on Feb. 5 with many events happening both before and after.
