Northern Michigan Healthcare Systems on Federal Vaccine Mandate for Healthcare Workers

In November, President Biden ordered all healthcare workers at facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid must receive their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by January 27th.

The mandate is for 25 states plus Washington, D.C.

In a statement, Spectrum Health said they announced a vaccine requirement for team members in July of last year.

Stating, “we are pleased that we are in one hundred percent compliance with the c-m-s rule that went into effect today, and we are grateful to the thousands of team members who took action since we announced the vaccine requirement. We do not anticipate staffing shortages or patient care issues because of the federal deadline for healthcare workers to be vaccinated.”

Munson Healthcare’s own deadline for employees to get vaccinated was earlier this month.

Munson’s human resource department says they have no staffing issues.

MyMichigan Health, formerly MidMichigan Health, reports as of this week, 74% of their employees are vaccinated against COVID-19.

The federal vaccine mandate for healthcare workers is expected to be rolled out to the remaining states in the coming weeks.
