The annual Father Fred Frostbite Food Drive kicks off Saturday in Traverse City.
It’s the largest food drive effort of the year for the non-profit that helps families throughout Grand Traverse County and beyond.
Volunteers will collect donations at a number of locations throughout the city.
They’re looking for non-perishable food items like canned chicken, tuna, pasta sauce, rice and canned fruit.
The average weekly cost to fill the food pantry is $6,500.
The food drive makes sure the pantry is stocked for the next few months.
“We’re not here to fight hunger; what we’re here to do is help make things easier for people who are considered food insecure so that they have access to healthy food and that they can also pay for their bills,” said Candice Hamel, Executive Director of the Father Fred Foundation. “We just want to be able to help them make it through day to day.”
The Frostbite Food Drive runs through Feb. 6.
The main drop-off location is at Team Bob’s off of South Airport Road.
