Ice fishing season is well underway, and one business in Traverse City is prepared for every season.
83-year-old Jim Weed runs TC Bait and Tackle with his wife.
He’s been fishing for 77 years, and makes a lot of his own lures for whatever the situation.
Weed says that business has been better this year than 2021 due to more frigid temperatures, but they’re still waiting on it to pick up.
“We’re not getting a ton of people just yet because we just now got really good ice maybe a week ago,” said Weed. “My wife and I tell everybody here to be safe, don’t take any chances; because we know what it takes for somebody to get there and get them out of the water.”
Weed says that while he can’t get out on the ice himself anymore, his favorite part of his job is teaching the next generations and receiving pictures of his customers out fishing.
