Several projects are still in the works for Downtown Traverse City.

The Downtown Development Authority held two meetings on Wednesday to receive public input on local infrastructure projects.

The projects discussed included construction on the bridges, the reconfiguration of Grandview Parkway and zoning initiatives that will impact Old Towne and Front Street.

By putting in a brand new road and widening Grandview Parkway to a five lane cross section, the $19 million dollar project is expected to take time and cause some disruptions.

DDA CEO Jean Derenzy says all of these changes strive to bring more of the community downtown and make things more convenient for pedestrians.

“So, for one, [business owners] are engaged, they understand the timing of both of these significant projects—the bridges are in 2022 and the Grandview Parkway is in 2023,” said Derenzy.

She also encourages all Traverse City residents to stay actively informed with what’s happening downtown.

“The more that we can get ahead of that communication and understanding of how the project will work, the better,” said Derenzy.

The DDA will hold another virtual public meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will also be holding two virtual public meetings to discuss plans to rebuild a section of US-31/M-72/M-37 (Grandview Parkway) from South Garfield Avenue to Division Street in 2023.
