Triston Cole, former Majority Floor Leader and State Representative, has released a statement on recent allegations against former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield.

“In my final two years as a State Representative, I held the number three leadership position under Speaker Chatfield. The latest revelations of his secret accounts and lavish expenditures leave me frustrated and deeply disappointed. As public servants our job is to serve and represent people who elect us with integrity, while honoring and upholding the faith and trust placed on us by voters across our state to do what is right.”

Cole continued, “While the investigation into his behavior continues, I am disappointed that our speaker broke the spirit of the law while living a lifestyle beyond his means with no-account and lacking in transparency. I shared my frustrations with others at the time regarding the lack of progress on legislation towards the end of each session week. I am now learning that this was attributed to the speaker’s need and desire to jet around the nation for business unrelated to the work of the Michigan legislature…”

“As your next State Senator, I will demand immediate reform to our campaign finance laws and shed light on secret accounts created and held without disclosures,” stated Cole. “Transparency is always the best policy and sunshine is the best disinfectant.”
