An individual has been injured in a car crash in Mecosta County, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday around 1:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to investigate a one-car personal injury accident on 9 Mile Road and 20th Avenue.

Deputies say the driver, an 81-year-old Big Rapids man, was traveling west on 9 Mile Road when he fell asleep and ran off of the road to the north.

They say he jumped on a driveway, traveled in the air and collided with a ditch.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver’s passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has been taken to a local hospital for treatment.
