It was a record year for revenue for the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and they’re looking to expand for next season.
They’ve started construction on new nature center, which they have yet to name, and an 18-hole miniature golf course. The hotel always begins projects on Nov. 1 which they consider the offseason.
Being on an island proves a unique situation when it comes to building projects like these and there are two main issues they have to pay attention to throughout construction.
“We have most if not all of our product over there for construction,” said David Jurcak, president of operations for the Grand Hotel. “There are still some supply chain issues on some materials that we’ll get in the spring to finalize construction. With the weather I think everyone in northern Michigan knows it’s going to be a little rough for the next couple of weeks.”
The hotel is expected to complete their nature preserve and mini golf course by mid may. They’re also working on a biking trail for younger kids.
