New Ice Rink in Mt. Pleasant Park Draws Excitement
A project over a year in the making in Mt. Pleasant has finally come to fruition.
The original idea came from the county commissioners, who were looking for more winter activities for people to enjoy during the pandemic.
They approved funding back in Nov. 2021 to build and maintain the rink.
The Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation department says with only a few months left of cold weather, they’re hoping people get some use out of the rink.
“It just adds that extra activity,” said Mt. Pleasant Parks and Public Spaces Director Phillip Biscorner. “There are a lot of people who love to skate and it’s very difficult to get time over at the indoor ice rink, especially for open skating.”
Biscorner is taking these next few months to see things they can improve on for next year.
“Even from a staff prospective to just know what we can and can’t do for certain things,” he said. “It’ll get ironed out as we go along.”
The rink will be open when the parks are open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
