Frankfort-Elberta, Glen Lake Basketball Teams Come Together to Support Fellow Player

Two schools came together on the basketball court Friday night, all to help a fellow player.

Just a few days before Christmas, a routine physical and blood work showed Elliott Hammon, a sophomore and basketball player at Frankfort-Elberta High School, had a brain tumor.

“It was a shocker for sure, cause I mean, I saw him two hours before hand,” said Blake Miller, a friend of Elliott’s and a fellow basketball player at Frankfort-Elberta High School.

But Elliott isn’t on his journey alone.

His friend Blake wanted to show his support, coming up with the idea for the Frankfort-Elberta basketball teams to wear “Elliott Strong” t-shirts during warm-up against Glen Lake.

“He’s a good friend, he’s athletic, he’s really nice, easy to talk to, I mean he’s the best kid you would ever meet, so we are excited to represent him tonight,” said Miller.

“This game is for Elliott,” said Dan Loney, Head Basketball Coach at Frankfort-Elberta High School. “It’s bigger than basketball. Set all that stuff aside, go out there and play the way Elliott wants us to play.”

The support goes beyond Elliott’s team. Their opponent Friday night, Glen Lake, also wore “Elliott Strong” shirts.

“Anytime our communities get together and help out each other in any way we can, this is obviously for a great cause so we have no thoughts about it,” said Todd Hazelton, Assistant Basketball Coach at Glen Lake High School.

“It’s a big rivalry game, usually decides Northwest conference, but today we are coming together for a common goal for someone that’s been a part of our community for years,” said Miller.

Elliott’s family says he is on track to being back out on the basketball court soon, after undergoing surgery last week.

If you would like to help Elliott and his family, to go to their GoFundMe account.
