Senator Wayne Schmidt To Run for Grand Traverse County Commission

Republican Senator Wayne Schmidt’s term for the 37th State District seat ends after 2022.

He’s setting his sight on his next career move: running for Grand Traverse County Commission.

Senator Schmidt served for 10 years on the Grand Traverse County Board in the past, serving as both Chair and Vice Chair.

With the expansion of seven seats on the board to nine this year, Senator Schmidt is running for District 7, which doesn’t have any current county commissioners living within it.

This means there will be no challenging incumbent for the seat.

“The key is making sure that the county is working with its partners: the city, the villages, the townships and making sure we can do the best we can for all the residents here and for our visitors and to be a part of Northwestern lower Michigan,” said Senator Schmidt.

Senator Schmidt says he looks forward to serving the Grand Traverse County community.
