Schools Urged To Postpone or Make Non-Essential Events Virtual Large Gatherings

With schools starting back up after the winter break and omicron spreading across the state, Michigan’s health department has urged schools to postpone or make virtual large gatherings, including sporting events, if they are not “essential.”

The state is also reiterating their push for mask mandates in schools, but are still leaving the ultimate decision up to the local districts themselves.

Regular testing and vaccinations are also strongly encouraged.

9&10 News spoke to a handful of districts Monday that say they are not planning to change their strategy as of now, but are keeping a close eye on positivity rates in their own district and will adapt as needed.
