Cheboygan Co. Emergency Management Opens Shelters For Those Affected By Severe Weather

Cheboygan County Emergency Management announced Thursday that they have opened shelters for families affected by the severe weather through Cheboygan County.

They say anyone who has been affected is welcome to come to the nearest shelter in the community, and the shelters will remain open until power is restored.

According to the Mackinaw City Police Department, Mackinaw City Schools will be open as a warming facility only if needed.

Officials say anyone coming to the shelter should bring essential items for each member of the family, including:

  • Prescriptions and emergency medications
  • Food and water
  • Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, and other comfort items
  • Supplies needed for children, infants such as diapers, formula and limited toys
  • Collapsible/folding chair or cot
  • Cellphone, with extra battery operated charger if available
  • Quiet games, books, playing cards or other entertainment
  • Special items for family members who are elderly or disabled

  • Church of Straits: 307 N Huron Ave, Mackinaw City, MI 49701
