Missaukee County Veterans Affairs opened a new office in Lake City to help assist the county’s veterans.

There’s a service officer available to help advocate for local veterans’ disability claims through the VA.

They’ll also be able to file claims through the office, as well.

The current service officer says the county hasn’t had a service officer for three years, and the local veterans, she says, are excited for the resource to be back in the county.

“So many of the claims have been stalled, and the veterans are wondering where their case is at,” said Missaukee County Veterans Affairs Veterans Service Officer Jan Anderson. “We’re going to be able to do that in here, answer those questions for the veterans.”

The office was funded by a grant from the Missaukee County Veteran Service Fund.

The office is open five days a week from 9-1, and is located in the Courthouse Annex in Lake City.
