Gov. Whitmer Signs Bills To Help Veterans & Medical Marijuana Growers

Governor Whitmer signed two bills from the Michigan House and Senate that will help veterans and medical marijuana growers.

The first bill from the Senate will allow disabled veterans to deduct taxable income they get from student loans being canceled or forgiven.

The tax deduction will apply to loans that ended from 2016 to 2019 and all years after 2024.

The VFW Department of Michigan says the bill “is a great step towards recognizing the sacrifices and service of Michigan’s disabled veterans.”

The second bill signed into law amends the Michigan Medical Marijuana Licensing Act.

Currently, marijuana growers have to submit their financial statements to the Marijuana Regulatory Agency every year. The amendment changes that to every three years.

Gov. Whitmer says the House bill will make financial reporting easier for growers.
