Boyne City Public Schools says they will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 8 because of a safety concern.

This all comes after a string of copycat threats and safety issues following the Oxford School Shooting.

Boyne Schools released a statement saying the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office reported a gun was stolen from a home in the district.

They say with the help of Boyne City police, deputies searched through several homes Wednesday morning but the gun was not found.

The Sheriff’s Office says there is a rumor circulating that the gun is possibly in a student’s possession, but say no direct threat was made against the school.

Because the stolen weapon has not been found, the district is cancelling school to give law enforcement more time to investigate.
