Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department Rallies Community for 23rd Annual Christmas Food Drive

Volunteers braving the snow, wind and cold today all to make a brighter Christmas for some.

On Saturday, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department in Sault Ste. Marie held its 23rd annual Christmas food drive.

Trailers were set up at Walmart and Pat’s Foods in the Soo from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Generous people donated turkeys, hams, non-perishable foods, toys and money.

Volunteers from the sheriff’s department spent part of their day battling the cold collecting the items.

Mike Bitnar, Chippewa County sheriff says, “Before I was even set up, I had people handing us money and boxes of food.  Christmas is in the air…we have been really busy!”

All donations stay local and are distributed through the Salvation Army in Sault Ste. Marie.
